Why we wanted to help the Community

The reason we started Powys Pets In Need, was because of the amount of people on low income and financial hardship in Powys, also getting worse with the pandemic.

3500 people claiming welfare benefits in Powys (NOMIS 2020) and over 5700 workless households (14.7% of all households).

We believe with this short term help, it would reduce the likelihood of families having to rehome their pets and the emotional distress (as well as reducing physical activities) Many of these are people living alone where the pet is an important emotional comfort.

No one should have to choose between feeding themselves or their pets.

We cover the whole of Powys 2,000 square miles, the largest County in Wales

Beneficiaries We Have Helped

We had a phone call from a gentleman in Presteigne, who wanted to know if we could help him temporary, as they have just hit hard times, with massive bills, it was explained that bills are always top priority then it is the Cats before theirs, but this month they have hit rock bottom.

They have 15 Cats altogether, most are feral, but they have taken them under their wings, they got them neuted by the Cats Protection / RSPCA Scheme, and they have been feeding them and others for years and managing. (It just goes to show what it's like out there.

I also saw one of their Cats with 3 legs, he thought we would only be able to help a couple of them, but we managed to help all of them.

A while later he sent a text saying: Hi thank you ever so much for the Cat biscuits, I really appreciate it, and the guy took a photo of some of my Cats I will try to remember to take a photo when they are all together,. I really am amazed at what you have given me. Thank you very much again.

We will update this with future photos
